CHAOSMOS OF THE PERSONAL
You are kindly invited to a hybrid presentation of my current Artistic Research project.
How do we deal today with the National Socialist perpetrators of our ancestors who were shrouded in silence? In confrontation with texts from our own family, the ethno-psychoanalytical method of the 'Interpretation Workshop' is put to the test experimentally in this artistic research focusing on women as perpetrators.
Nanna Conti (1881-1951), so called Reichshebammenführerin, the leading midwife under Adolf Hitler, and her daughter Camilla Nissen (1902-1993), a convinced National Socialist, are the direct ancestors of Lena Ditte Nissen. Both left behind texts: Camilla Nissen wrote diaries and later her memoirs, which were intended only for the immediate family. Nanna Conti published countless writings in the midwifery journal of which she was the chief editor. Her remarks were thus explicitly intended for the public. Both women wanted to tell their own ideological truth with their words and use it to influence others - internally and externally. Thus, one wrote addressed to the family on a small scale and the other to a group of society on a larger scale. In this lecture, the researcher will first present excerpts from the aforementioned texts, and then discuss their polyphonic interpretation through the 'Interpretation Workshop', as well as the possibilities and challenges of their transfer into artistic expression.

*SOLO SHOW AT GEMEINDE KÖLN*
Soft Opening // 21.01.2022 // 5-8pm
In this exhibition, artist and filmmaker Lena Ditte Nissen shows works that were created in the context of dealing with her family’s involvement in National Socialism. Video, language, photography, and text reveal historical contexts that are set in connection with reflections from the present. Thus, in ever-expanding and contracting circles, the work revolves around the subject of personal confrontation, in which the subjective gaze keeps changing its position, keeps refocusing.
The center of the exhibition is the polyphonic 3-channel video installation TAKE IT AS IT IS, produced by Lena Ditte Nissen in 2021 as part of her Art & Theory Fellowship at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen. Also on view are a series of new photographs taken at the former Nazi doctors’ leadership school.

IDENTITY IS UNCERTAINTY #II
The exhibition IDENTITY IS UNCERTAINTY #2: ‹Trauma›‹Art›‹Activism›‹Revolution› shows new works produced in Innsbruck by the participants of the Fellowship Program for Art and Theory at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen 2019–20. Anna DASOVIĆ, KURS (Mirjana Radovanović and Miloš Miletić), Lena Ditte NISSEN and Airi TRIISBERG focused on projects addressing constructions of identity that are of constituent significance for our present. The foundations of these identity constructions are to be found in the humus of (Post)National Socialist and (Post)Communist historical events: The military construct of the “Other” in the course of the UN presence during the Yugoslav wars in the 1990s, activist biographies in Eastern Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall, but also the National Socialist ideology and its subcutaneous persistence to the present day, as well as its counterpart in Yugoslavia – the partisan movement and its culture – were topics and the projects‘ onsets of the Fellows’ theoretical and artistic working proposals.
